Looking for a fun place to send your children this summer? Charlotte has dozens of different day camps to choose from, many offering unique opportunities. From singing to superhero, horse-back riding or just plain fun, there’s a camp to suit every child. Even better, these camps get your kids out of the house during those sweltering summer days and into exciting adventures that will help them develop new friendships and skills.

Check out Discovery Place’s summer camp offerings. It offers a great variety of programs for children ages three to 9th grade. Where else can your 4th and 5th grade kids attend Superhero Training Camp and learn the science behind superheroes and create their own superhero? The 6th to 8th grade children can become Crime Scene Investigators. They’ll increase their critical thinking skills as they process fingerprint evidence, learn chromatography, study DNA extraction and analyze blood splatter. This is a great opportunity for your child to explore their passions.

Are you raising the next J.K. Rowling? Now’s your chance to send her to camp for a week and watch her writing skills bloom. Young Writers’ Academy accepts children in grades two to eight and provides them with a week-long, half-day summer session designed to encourage and explore their love of writing. The camp offers genre writing opportunities along with general creative writing and journalism. The summer sites and fees will be posted on the website on March 15, 2014.

Your horse-crazy child can learn and ride at the Providence Equestrian Center’s weekly camps. For each week-long session, the children are divided into small groups based on their age and experience. For $335, your child spends each morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. learning the basics, from proper mounts and dismounts to walking, trotting, cantering and more. Advanced students can jump, gallop and ride. Students also learn how to care and groom the horses. It’s a great hands-on experience.

This is a 10-day camp for your budding “American Idol” or “The Voice” contestant. Children ages eight to 17 will spend two weeks learning songs, performance techniques, recording skills and more. It’s a fabulous experience that will help with their confidence and stage presence. The session ends with a live concert. Camp has a tentative July 15 start date. Your child could even wind up meeting her future bandmates here.

There are a variety of different options for your child at Charlotte Country Day Summer Programs. Sports, academics and overall enrichment are all possible at these weekly camps offered from June 3rd to August 16th. Children ages three to 18 are welcome. Charlotte Country Day offers a wide range of sporting activities (lacrosse, baseball and others) along with theater, cooking and fully accredited high school academic programs and SAT prep.
