But with all the demands on single moms today, it’s hard to find the time needed to adequately manage these duties. Hand in Hand Financial also offers instruction and counseling with its financial consultants for a better understanding of how your finances affect you. With the economy in a slump indefinitely, maybe it’s time to go back to school. The Office of Adult Students and Evening Services (OASES) at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte offers an evening program and scholarships that can make a big difference in the life of a single mother and her family. Scholarship amounts vary, but in general you must be a nontraditional student enrolled at UNC-Charlotte who demonstrates academic potential. Other requirements may apply. OASES office hours: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., first Saturday of each month during the fall and spring semesters.

For single mothers in Charlotte, the Power of We provides a host of tools to help you juggle life’s basic responsibilities. The group says it is dedicated to helping single mothers in the Charlotte area connect with other single mothers to empower them with what they need to live fulfilled lives. The Power of We provides services such as counseling from local lawyers, pastors, psychologists, social workers and financial consultants; seminars on topics including fitness, parenting, cooking, and college advice; donations of clothing, food, childcare, and temporary housing; mentors for guidance; and monthly mixers that provide opportunities to make new friends.
