Charlotte, NC has a lot to offer when it comes to public pools for kids and even state-of-the-art water parks as ways to cool off during those long summer months! If you’re a new parent, try taking your baby or toddler to the areas many YMCAs for an introductory course to the water during the summer or to Little Otter Swimming School for swimming lessons anytime of the year. Ray’s Splash Planet is the closest thing to a full-on water park, without paying the expensive admission prices of Carowinds or Great Wolf Lodge. Anyway you choose it, there are plenty of places to not only learn to swim this summer, but cool off and have fun as well!

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has many, many locations in and around the city of Charlotte that all have indoor pools, as well as fitness centers and classes for total health well-being. The YMCA’s mission is to build healthy spirit, mind and body and one of the ways they do that is to offer swim lessons during the summer/fall months for a nominal fee that teach basic water safety skills. These classes fill up quickly, so make sure to register at least 2 months in advance to get a spot! Experienced instructors advocate water safety while helping children improve their form and ability. Kids will have a blast while developing their skills and staying active and cool during those long summer months. The “Y” also offers Parent/Child Swim Lessons that provide a positive, fun environment to foster the parent-child relationship through water exploration. Also meet other parents, expose the children to others their age, and help teach your child basic water safety skills. Classes are taught by enthusiastic, caring instructors who emphasize on making the child feel comfortable in the water. Classes for all ages as well as parent/child swim lessons run from June 18 to July 30, August 13 to September 24 and October 8 to November 12. See website listed below for more details, prices and locations.
