Selwyn Avenue Pub

When one thinks of Irish pubs with a huge outdoor patio, surely Selwyn Avenue Pub quickly comes to mind. The indoor area here is popular enough, but it is the outdoor atmosphere, along with a popular list of Irish beers on tap, which attracts a sophisticated gathering to trendy Myers Park. The patio, during winter months, is warmed by a fire pit and heaters. Hours: Monday through Friday, ‎3 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Found On The Water at Shoppes at University Place, Boardwalk Billy’s Raw Bar & Ribs offers a robust patio area, which overlooks a large pond and offers a pleasant view. Specializing in baby back ribs and an oyster bar, patrons also can count on a generous drink selection and wide variety of live music. Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Ed’s Tavern

“Charlotte’s Neighborhood Bar,” Ed’s Tavern touts a staff that is, “The Queen City’s friendliest bar staff,” which diligently covers the noted outdoor deck and indoor station. The outside deck, which is covered and heated during the cooler months, supports about 30 mingling bar-goers. Established in 2005 in the Dilworth area as the Iowa Hawkeyes fans’ official local hangout, Ed’s has plenty of action, with Wednesday’s Name That Tune, Thursday’s Team Trivia and live music Friday and Saturday. Hours: Monday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Solstice Tavern

Located in the heart of the arts district, Solstice Tavern boosts the “biggest deck in NoDa.” It certainly is one of the most decorated, with the wood fence adorned with street signs and posters. A Tiki-style bar towers over the deck area. Solstice also specializes in serving up wraps and burgers and the inside bar is wallpapered with televisions. Hours: Monday through Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.
