Attracting wonder and amazement uptown since 1981, there is an exhibit for everyone at this interactive science museum. While “World Alive” introduces visitors to creatures and organisms from all over the world, “Think It Up” challenges one in a multi-sensory setting. “Cool Stuff” can be found in the science corner, and a 3D theater shows family-oriented short films. Hours: Monday though Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Focusing on nature, the Charlotte Nature Museum is a fun, learning tool for “kids” of all ages. Among the popular exhibits, “Creature Craven,” “Insect Alley,” “Butterfly Pavilion” and “Our Big Backyard” often leave youngsters intrigued by nature. Live shows and a nature trail are also featured. Maintaining the oldest house in Mecklenburg County – the 1774 Hezekiah Alexander home site – and preserving and interpreting a wide-range of artifacts, the Charlotte Museum of History is definitely a must-see for anyone looking for the best museums in Charlotte. “Settlement in the Backcountry” is one of the permanent exhibits.
