Wells Fargo Championship - Final RoundMay Day falls on May 1. It is recognized around the world as International Workers’ Day. It is also symbolic of the spring season with wonderful warmer weather and gardens in full bloom. Celebrate any and all the meanings of May Day with these events.

Action NC has planned a May Day family picnic in Veterans Park on the weekend following May 1 to show solidarity with workers we cannot do without, but whose contributions are rarely recognized. Thanks will go out to teachers, those who build and repair our buildings, our public servants and others. Action on immigration issues will also be addressed as appreciation will be shown for immigrant workers. Go to celebrate and come away with plans to achieve progress for the working class which makes Charlotte strong. Collaboration on a Wednesday, May 1 event with the North Carolina Justice Center, labor unions and other groups in Charlotte was being planned as this article went to press.

Art lovers can make a day if it on the campus of Davidson College viewing the works of young artists. Senior year visual art majors are exhibited on a weekly basis at the Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center at Davidson College. Another campus-wide student exhibit of senior works is also showing until May 3. Admission is free.

Whatever their fitness status, mothers will be coached through an outdoor walk/run excursion. Ladies can meet other moms, enjoy the springtime setting and exercise for a long and healthy life. If baby is in a stroller, bring him or her along. They will benefit from the fresh air and sunshine, and mom will set a positive example for baby to follow.

This free event focuses on post-service professional success for veterans, military men and women in active duty, reservists, guardsmen and their families. This “Start Strong” event is co-sponsored by the University of Phoenix and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, with support from federal and state veterans’ agencies, the American Legion and more local cohorts. A panel discussion will offer expert guidance from alumni of the University of Phoenix who served their country and other military experts. Networking opportunities will link prospective employers with those who attend. Internet apps will be discussed by representatives from the American Red Cross.

There is no doubt that many Charlotteans, including Wells Fargo employee/volunteers, as well as visitors from across the nation and enthusiasts from around the world, will spend May Day at Quail Hollow for the Pro-Am portion of this PGA TOUR event. Teams composed of professional golfers and celebrities start the day at 7 a.m. with afternoon tee times starting at 12 noon. Children 12 or younger accompanied by a ticket holder are admitted free. Children will also have access to a special area near the driving range to see players warm up and practice without parents, whose presence is not allowed in this area.
