Some businesses/venues are open about their haunted atmospheres, and welcome the interested customers/visitors, whereas others are not. These select few are the top ones to check out here in Charlotte that are more welcoming than most, both by the proprietors and their spirits.

Cajun Queen

Voted Charlotte’s best cajun restaurant, located right in the Elizabeth district, Cajun Queen is one of the oldest houses in the area, said to be haunted by an old female ghost. New Orleans style all the way, this old house has been converted into a restaurant, and its waitstaff reports conflicting stories about why she haunts it, whether she’s truly an angry spirit or just thirsty.

An old house located near uptown in the Elizabeth district, doubling as a restaurant, Kennedy’s Irish Bar’s ghosts appear to be a permanent fixture of the place, so keep your eyes peeled for strange occurrences. Open every day, this is a New York-owned and operated bar with a variety of menu items for everyone. A series of spooky events launched a paranormal investigation on the place. Strange occurrences during the visit indicate this is the place to be for a little haunted fun with your drinks.

Alexander Michaels Restaurant

Located in the 4th Ward district in Charlotte, Alexander Michael’s Restaurant has been around since 1983 and is locally owned and operated. Providing a romantic and laid back atmosphere, Alexander Michaels is said to be haunted but doesn’t advertise it often. It provides a small-town feel right in the neighborhood, which is why people seem to keep returning despite the extra visitors here.

McGlohon Theatre

McGlohon Theatre was originally a church in the 1800s, eventually renovated into a theater in the 1940s/1950s. Its said you can still hear people walking around the church/theater when the facility is closed, as well as a few hauntings while employees are on the clock. Use your tickets at nearby restaurants and bars to check out the theater’s spooky stories on the cheap. You’ll definitely need drinks at Cosmos Cafe & Fox & Hound after visiting the haunts at McGlohon.

One of the hottest spots in town, Dixie’s Tavern always has something spectacular going on, even when there’s not a game in town or a holiday to celebrate. Dixie’s makes a holiday out of an ordinary day. Every year, it hosts a Halloween bash, which seems fitting because the neighborhood its in, Elizabeth, is one of the most haunted spots in Charlotte. Dixie’s is always a good time, so take a couple of shots of liquid courage and go haunt hunting right here in Elizabeth.
