Valentine's Day Date Ideas - Billiards
Charlotte has a very active billiards scene with pool tables in nearly every bar in the city. Establishments run the gamut from casual spots where you can shoot a friendly pick-up game with other patrons to pool halls where serious players compete for cash. A variety of tournaments are underway at all times, including ongoing 8-Ball Express and American Poolplayers Association (APA) competitions. The Charlotte Metro APA is one of the top amateur pool leagues in the country, ranked No. 4 with over 5,000 members and 600 teams, some of whom go on to the national finals held each year in Las Vegas. Practice your skill at any of these Charlotte locales.
Dilworth Billiards
300 E. Tremont Ave.
Charlotte, NC 28203
(704) 333-3021

Founded in 1979, Dilworth Billiards doubles as both a social club and as a business that restores and markets antique pool, billiard and snooker tables. Inside the Dilworth location, you’ll find five beautifully restored antique pool tables, along with a full bar and vintage arcade and pinball games amid a collection of vintage pool and billiard memorabilia. Outside, a lovely brick patio with three fountains and a koi pond makes a popular spot for friendly get-togethers between games. This is a private club; new memberships cost $20. Members and their guests enjoy daily drink specials and half-price pool on Tuesdays.
Elizabeth Billiards
1400 Central Ave.
Charlotte, NC 28205
(704) 342-2663

This Plaza-Midwood favorite doesn’t have the best pool tables in town, or the best beer selection (bottles only), but it’s a consistent winner in popular polls as the best pool hall in Charlotte. Why? Rack it up to free pool on the four tables, free pizza on Friday nights, the notorious Wheel of Shots and the hoard of friendly locals who welcome new faces brave enough to step through the door. EB’s, as it’s known to regulars, occupies a former ABC store, just four brick walls in the middle of a parking lot near the corner of Pecan and Central. The fenced-off patio outside is a recent addition for smokers. The name is a carry-over from its previous Elizabeth location in the space now occupied by the Philosopher’s Stone.
