CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers have waived defensive end Thomas Keiser and offensive lineman Zach Williams, and signed eight free agents.
Cam Newton may have caught a break when he faces the Broncos this Sunday as starting cornerback Tracy Porter will miss his fourth straight game due to an illness. The Panthers may have to open up the playbook to keep pace with Denver QB Peyton Manning and Newton could take advantage of Porter’s absence.
Despite their win over the Redskins, the Panthers took their lumps last Sunday which included kick return specialist Kealoha Pilares being lost for the season. Once again it is next man up and this time it is David Gettis who will see his first regular season action since 2010.
The Panthers record is abysmal, they seemingly have more players on IR than actual healthy starters and the trade deadline is Thursday at 4 p.m. Carolina needs some cap relief to help the new general manager when he is named, but will they make the necessary deals to begin the rebuilding process?
Running back Jonathan Stewart returns to the Panthers lineup but will the running back help DeAngelo Williams establish a running game good enough so quarterback Cam Newton can open up the playbook? Even if all things go well, the Atlanta Falcons are still a force to be reckoned with in the NFC South not to mention the National Football League.
