The Panthers season comes down to this: They have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel and the only way to get back on solid footing is to beat the Cowboys on Sunday. But Dallas is on notice from their owner to shape up or ship out and they need a win just to get back to the .500 mark.
The Carolina Panthers are sitting at 1-4 as they head into their bye week, but are sitting tied for victories with the Saints and Buccaneers in the NFC South. In order to fight for playoff contention, the Panthers are going to really need to focus on a few key points and make sure they are done.
Three games under .500 after just five games is tough enough but now the Panthers are in a desperate search to find a replacement for arguably the best center in the NFL. Ryan Kalil set a high bar for Carolina this season and even if Carolina manages to turn things around, he won’t be leading the way.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers announced Wednesday that Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil is out for the season after suffering a left foot injury.
If the Panthers would’ve turned it over a bunch, fumbled a couple of times, committed a lot of penalties, etc I don’t think I would be nearly as alarmed. But after watching them get whipped at the line of scrimmage for four quarters by the lowly Buccaneers I’m concerned.
The Panthers and Buccaneers each have top players banged up, but it’s Tampa Bay thats feeling the pain, especially at cornerback. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton had a record setting rookie campaign passing the ball, and could have a field day to start his second year against a secondary with little depth.
Earlier this summer Panthers center Ryan Kalil bought an ad in the paper stating that he thought the Panthers could make it to the Super Bowl. Obviously with Kalil doing his best Don Draper impersonation, this fired up the fans of the team with thoughts of returning to the big game almost a decade after the Panthers’ first appearance in a Super Bowl. Well, there is one way and one way only for Carolina to get Super Bowl bound, and that is to make the playoffs. So how do the Panthers make the playoffs?
