Mac Attack: 07/09/13 Eric Prisbell from USA Today joined Mac and Jim for the latest news regarding the investigation of UNC’s P.J. Hairston
North Carolina is investigating whether a former college basketball player has improper ties to Tar Heels leading scorer P.J. Hairston or any other UNC athlete.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) Durham police have charged North Carolina leading scorer P.J. Hairston with marijuana possession following a traffic stop.
I know. I criticized Roy last week for keeping P.J. Hairston buried on the bench for far too long. I stand by that. But I also know that, in his place, I would have started P.J. Hairston instead of Dexter Strickland. And that would have been the wrong call. Starting him alongside Strickland, in a small lineup, has been the spark the Tar Heels desperately needed. Since then, they’ve won three out of four and played their best basketball of the year. For that, I give Roy credit.
If there’s a reason he didn’t start P.J. Hairston earlier in the season, I hope it’s a good one. Hairston averaged 13.7 points per game in only 16.8 minutes over the nine ACC games he didn’t start. In the two games since he earned the starting job, he’s averaged 26 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, helping Carolina play its best basketball of the season—against Duke and Virginia, no less.
