RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue is speaking out in urging voters to defeat a proposed constitutional amendment on next month’s ballot that makes clear gay marriage and civil unions aren’t recognized by the state of North Carolina.

This May 8th, less than a month away, voters will have the option to decide the future of many North Carolina residents. The state is working to incorporate a new state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, domestic partnership, common-law marriage and civil unions.
