The Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, will be contested at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Saturday. Six colts who ran in the Kentucky Derby will return for the Preakness including the top two finishers I’ll Have Another and Bodemeister.
The field for the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby is the best we have seen since 2007. That year, colts that ran in the Derby went on to win major stakes in the summer and fall including the King’s Bishop, Haskell Stakes, Travers Stakes, Jockey Club Gold Cup, and the Breeders Cup Classic.
This past weekend brought the first of six major races for Kentucky Derby hopefuls. The Florida Derby and Louisiana Derby are in the books with the Santa Anita Derby and Wood Memorial to come on April 7th and the Arkansas Derby and Blue Grass Stakes to follow on April 14th.
