It’s that time of year again where Greek traditions take center stage in Charlotte, NC! The Yiasou Greek Festival began in 1978 and since then has become one of Charlotte’s largest cultural extravaganzas! Step inside the inner workings of one of the largest outdoor parties celebrating the sights and sounds of Greek culture!

Saying Hello And Cheers…The Greek Way!

In Greek culture, the word “Yiasou” means Hello, Goodbye and Cheers. It is only fitting and proper that a festival hold the name of such a word! You say hello to great times, cheers to wonderful events and memories and goodbye to the mundane! The Yiasou Greek Festival is cuisine and pastries, entertainment, art, shopping , exhibits, lectures and so much more. Named “Best International Event” from Charlotte Magazine in 2009, the festival has also enjoyed seemingly endless accolades and praises for its authentic presentation of Greek culture.

This Year’s Featured Attractions Include:

There will be a wealth of enrichment at this year’s Yiasou Greek Festival just as in the years before. Participants can expect Mount Athos Lectures, Classical Greek Culture Lectures and a Greek Cultural Exhibit. Each event will impart lessons in Greek history, collections of Greek art and artifacts and details representative of Greek villages and people.

The Entertainment!

One of the highlights of the Yiasou Greek Festival is the live entertainment! From authentic Greek dance steps to wonderfully sung Greek songs, the live entertainment is indeed a show-stopping experience! Youth and adults of Holy Trinity dress in Greek costumes to bring the best in Greek singing, dancing and performances to the public. The children range in age from preschool to high school and practice throughout the year to deliver stellar performances during the Yiasou Greek Festival.

Ohhhh! The Food!

When you come to the Yiasou Greek Festival, be prepared to sample, taste and enjoy some authentic Greek cuisine! Some of the foods offered at the festival include: roasted lamb, Grecian baked chicken, “Athenian” baked fish, Grecian-style pizza, gyro and souvlaki sandwiches on pita bread, Grecian-style chicken sandwiches on pita bread, tiropita (feta cheese pie), spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese pie), Greek salads, baklava, baklava sundaes, galaktobouriko, loukoumades, frappe (Greek iced coffee), and many more! So bring an empty stomach and fine tuned tastebuds!

What would the Yiasou Greek Festival be without the opportunity to take the richness and vitality of Greek culture with you!? The festival features the ““Agora” Open-Air Market” as well as the “Hosanna! Spirit of Orthodoxy Bookstore”! Fine jewelry, art pieces and crafts, books and keepsakes are available for purchase and offer glimpses into Greek culture and history.

Church Tours

Spirituality and prayer are a huge part of Greek tradition. The church tours offered at the Yiasou Greek Festival offer an opportunity for festival goers to see iconography of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral and hear beautifully arranged choral performances. Lectures and tours are conducted on the hour.

Children who attend the Yiasou Greek Festival are bound to have the time of their lives! From rides, to exhibits to great food, there is great fun for those that are young and young at heart! Admission is $2.00. Children 12 and under are admitted free, accompanied by a parent or guardian.
