Did you know that there is a difference between wine tasting and wine drinking? Tasting wine involves your sense of taste, smell, touch and even sight. So here are a few tips that help you to taste with knowledge and understanding!
1. The sense of sight is the first one that is involved in proper wine tasting. It is necessary to tilt the wine a bit so that you see it with a white background.
2. Once we have a deep appreciation of wine through our sight, the next sense that is involved is our smell. You can discern the different wine aromas simply through their smell. Did you know that right at the tip of the glass you will feel a fruitier smell than deeper in the glass? It’s true. for at the bottom is where the wine will feel so much richer and fuller.
3. So what do you feel when the wine touches your tongue? Is there a prickle of the wine around the edges of your tongue? There is a feel that wine has when it touches the tongue. Each tongue pore comes into contact with the wine. It is important to know what it feels like.
4. There is an entire art about the actual tasting of the wine and it is good for you to articulate and detail those tastes. When tasting your wine, you need to take only a small sip, swirl it around in your mouth and then hold it for a second or two. The wineries of North Carolina offer exploration in terms of how to taste wine and experience the fullness of wine!
