Historic Rosedale Plantation
Just three miles from Uptown Charlotte, this beautiful plantation erected in the early 19th century has been well preserved. Even if you aren’t a history buff, taking a tour of the plantation offers an exciting journey back in time. With surviving original French wallpaper, faux grained woodwork, and gorgeous gardens, Rosendale shows visitors the heritage of the Southern Piedmont. Occasional events include everything from living history presentations to arts festivals and other family-oriented events. Tours are offered for adults and children Thursday through Sunday.

Reed Gold Mine
Even though your chances of getting rich are slim, try spending an afternoon out at Reed Gold Mine panning for gold. Reed is the first documented site where gold was found in the United States. Check out historical mining equipment, navigate the remaining underground tunnels and explore a restored ore-crushing stamp mill. Reed even has a place to picnic and a series of winding trails. This site is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with the family, especially when spring comes!
