From I-77 South

If southbound, take Exit 11(Brookshire Freeway.) Immediately move into the far right lane and take the Church Street/Tryon Street exit. Take a right onto Church and a right onto 6th. The parking deck is on the right. Enter museum from the 3rd level.

From I-77 North

Take Exit 11(Brookshire Freeway.) Stay in the right lane and take the Church Street/Tryon Street exit. Take a right onto Church and a right onto 6th. The parking deck is on the right. Enter museum from the 3rd level.

From I-85 North

Take Exit 36 – Brookshire Freeway. Bear right at the top of the ramp. Head east toward downtown. Once you cross I-77, look for the Church/Tryon Street Exit. Take a right on Church Street and the museum parking garage will be located on your right.

From I-85 South

Take 1-77, Exit 38, heading south. Take Exit 11(Brookshire Freeway.) Take the Church Street/Tryon Street exit. Take a right onto Church and a right onto 6th. The parking deck is on the right. Enter museum from the 3rd level.

From Highway 74 (Independence Boulevard)

Take the Brookshire Freeway to Brevard Street. Take a left on Brevard Street and a right on Sixth Street.

Summer Camps: Discovery Place offers summer camps for children of all ages. Specialty camps feature field trips, lunches, snacks and a host of outdoor as well as indoor activities for children. For more information, call 704.372.6261 x300.

IMAX: The ever popular IMAX theater puts you inside the movie. From the latest features on nature, geology, to special programs on culture and natural occurances, your little one is assured an educational experience, masked as an adventure… all from the comfort of a movie theater seat!

Field Trips and Specialty Classes: Discovery place offers field trips and classes for certain age groups. It’s interactive learning at its best! The Early Childhood Onsite Classes are for young learners, through rising grade 2. Activities range from introduction and information with live animals to hands-on experiments and cultural excursions. The Explore More Stuff classes are designed for children in grades 2-7. The class explores matter and energy through a hands-on lab.

Membership: There are various memberships you and your child can take advantage of. Memberships grant you and your little one special discounts, invitations to special events and exclusive exhibition openings and access to information. ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center

ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center is a collaborative venture between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Children’s Theater of Charlotte. The mission of ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center is to bring stories and adventures to life through exploration and creativity. Founded in 2005, ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually, who take part in specialized programs and events, engage in exhibits and puppet shows and other educational and captivating activities for those that are young as well as young at heart.

Children’s Theater Classes: Children of all ages, including preschoolers can take part in the Children’s Theater classes. They are designed to be interactive taught by professional theater artists with extensive experience as instructors, performers, directors and playwrights. The classes are age-appropriate explorations into theater arts, improvisation and other theater techniques that motivate and inspire young minds.Exhibitions: From computer stations and dollhouses to stage plays and murals, the exhibits at ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center always keep children first when it comes to educational enrichment. They celebrate diversity and encourage more extensive study. While interaction is the centerpiece of each, they provide a wealth of knowledge for young minds.

Monthly Calendar of Events: Each month, there is excitement within ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center. Productions, video game competitions, impromptu performances or costume parties are bound to be apart of the fun. Ray’s Splash Planet

Ray’s Splash Planet is a a one-of-a-kind water park with fun-filled features.It includes a state-of-the-art water park, a fitness area, aerobic and dance room and other wellness facilities. Upon opening its doors n October 15, 2002, Ray’s Splash Planet has quickly become the destination for aqua fun! Birthday parties can be hosted there inside one of the birthday party rooms and an outdoor covered picnic area, basketball gymnasium, horseshoe pits, Irwin Creek Greenway access will make for a memorable experience.

Preschool Activities & Programs “SportStop” is a beginner level program for ages 3 to 5. Participants and their parents learn basic sport specific skills. Each month, a specific skill set is taught and implemented. “Water Babies” helps children explore their creativity in the water. Parent participation required. The program also includes an all day pass to Ray’s Splash Planet for you and your preschooler immediately following the class.

Ray’s No School Day Camps These camps, designed for children aged designed for kids ages 6-12 yrs old promise to bring the fun! Sports, arts, crafts, shows and more are offered and age-appropriate activities stimulate creativity and ingenuity.

Swim Lessons @ Ray’s Splash Planet With instructors are trained and certified by the American Red Cross, young participants receive comprehensive instruction, basic water safety and helping and techniques on helping others in an emergency.

Ray’s Splash Planet Water park Perhaps easily the hugest attraction is the indoor water park. There this one-of-a-kind water park that contains 117,000 gallons of water and countless ways to have water-themed fun! The attractions at the water park include: “The Blue Comet”, “The Orbiter”, “Moon Beach” and “Sea of Tranquility”. Each offers hours of fun and state-of-the-art construction.

Group Rates: Group Rates are offered to non-profit organizations that hold a 501 3c certificate (example: Churches, Schools, etc.). There is also not a minimum group limit. Persons interested in group rates are required to call ahead for detailed planning as well as the possibility and eligibility of discounts.
