(CBS Charlotte) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police with the metro division searched for a suspect earlier this week after a woman said she was raped in Uptown.

The victim, a 47-year-old woman initially said she was raped in the early hours of Saturday morning in an alley.

According to the victim, the rape occurred near the intersection of East 3rd and South College. The woman was walking home alone when the incident occurred.

However, the woman eventually admitted that she had fabricated the entire story. It is not clear at this time why she lied to police.
