Ryan McGee Of ESPN The Magazine Talks SEC, ACC, BIG 10
Senior Writer at ESPN The Magazine Ryan McGee stopped by on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming college football season, the SEC, and college quarterbacks.
Has the SEC has disproved the theory that you need an elite quarterback to win championships, using Nick Saban and Alabama as an example, who have yet to name a quarterback?
“Down in Alabama, they talk about the system… If it’s a great program and a system’s in place, you know, you’re going to be able to put up numbers and win football games”
With the SEC lacking in “star power” compared to the other power conferences, is it possible the SEC does not make a playoff appearance?
“I think that honestly this new system is going to hurt them more than its going to help them… A selection committee is still a selection committee.”
When you look at the ACC is there another team that beat Florida State?
“I think that Clemson’s the team… If anybody’s going to do it it’s them.”
Did the loss of Braxton Miller to injury take Ohio State out of playoff contention?
“I don’t know that Ohio State can do it without Braxton Miller… Urban Meyer’s never had a problem producing with quarterbacks, no matter who the quarterback is… I think it’s maybe more of a Big Ten problem than an Ohio State problem.”
