There were a couple of big presentations in the world of golf merchandise last week from a couple of the heaviest hitters in the business.

TaylorMade, not long ago, one of the (if not THE) leaders in the lucrative and competitive world of Driver technology, has had a rough 12-18 months.  However, with what was shown to a select few insiders last week, a corner may just have been turned.

The biggest splash in the golf world though was made by Nike.  As shown, in magnificent manner by Rory McIlroy this summer, with their VRS Covert 2.0 Driver…they appear to have conquered the “Big Dawg” world.  That being said, Nike has always struggled to make an impact in the iron world.

That may be changing with the star-studded introduction of the “Vapor” irons.  Along with Rory, Tiger Woods and Jimmy Fallon hosted a major introductory event that has equipment insiders buzzing.

And golf equipment insiders don’t buzz for no reason…they are FAR too jaded. ;)

Among the best and most influential of these is our friend, Mike Johnson, Equipment Editor for Golf World and Golf Digest magazine(s).  He was front row for the top secret TaylorMade event (he’s not talking…much…yet) and the over-the-top, Nike one, and he shared his thoughts with us “On The Green” last week.
