Jake Delhomme: Panthers Have More Than Enough Weapons For Cam
Former Panthers QB Jake Delhomme joined “The Mac Attack” as he does a couple times a season to talk Carolina Panthers and what he expects from the 2014 squad.
Giving his insights on how he conducted his business during the preaseason, Delhomme didn’t get to fiery emotional when playing any preseason game, but did mention that the third game typically has the Panthers dominate the other team.
When watching the entire Kansas City Chiefs Preseason Game #2, Delhomme said that Cam Newton didn’t look the same in the first two series than he has been looking.
“Then all of a sudden, you saw something change,” says Delhomme. After watching the third series, the former QB said “a light has come on bright for him. He gets it.”
“I was more impressed with his mental state after the first two series of the game rather than anything else,” says Delhomme, in which many sports analysts are more worried about Cam’s recovery off of his ankle injury.
And can you have a ‘go-to’ rookie receiver in the NFL like Kelvin Benjamin?
“It sure seems that way,” says Delhomme. “Anything near him he snags” and even dropped that the Panther’s wide receiver coach Proehl and others in the organization were in love with Benjamin.
With other big men like TE, almost receiver-like, Greg Olsen, healthy running backs in Williams/Stewart, and two big wideouts like Avant and Cotchery, Jake gave his endorsement on Cam Newton’s 2014-15 offensive weapons.
Delhomme did have some insight on Cotchery by saying that quarterbacks like Brett Favre used the veteran WR as a “security blanket” and loved throwing the ball to him.
