(CBS Charlotte) — A teenager is in jail this morning and is accused of pointing a laser at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police helicopter.

According to police, the helicopter was in flight around 10:30 p.m. last night when 19-year-old Smith Hayden Brundage shined a laser into the sky, pointing it at the helicopter.

Brundage is charged with two counts of using a laser device on an aircraft. He faces up to 40 months in prison.

This story is still developing. Check back with CBS Charlotte for updates as they become available.
