3 Underrated Panthers
I will be the first to admit I get too caught up in where Panther players rank in these offseason time killer lists. With, that said, allow me to get caught up for a minute. These 3 guys specifically are underrated nationally by many and it drives me wild.
1) Charles Johnson- Read all the top 100 player lists and you will never find Big Money’s name. Is he the best pass rusher in the NFL ? No. He is probably not the best of this team. But, he is one of the best 4-3 Ends in the league and he just goes to work without drawing much attention to himself. He has 44 sacks in the last 4 seasons. His 11 per game in those years is higher than any 4 year average in Pep’s Panther career. No way there are 100 better players than CJ in this league.
2) Thomas Davis- You wont find him in the Pro Bowl or the Top 100 lists and that is some high level BS right there. He is one of the best nickel LBs in Football. And, he isn’t too shabby on first and second down either. He is the heart and soul of this team and has the ability to do everything you want a LB to do. He can cover, blitz and play the run. He gets overlooked because he plays next to Luke Keuchly. But, that still doesn’t make it fair.
3) Cam Newton- Cam is not constantly overlooked like CJ and TD, but it does still happen. Like the ESPN list that named him the 16th best QB in the game. He doesn’t deserve to be considered average. He proved this year he can win games with big plays in the clutch. He overcame supporting cast issues, the most hits a QB took in the NFL and the coaching of Mike Shula. And in his last 12 games he went 11-1 and had a QB Rating of 93. He is a Top 10 QB already and will only get better.
