After a heartbreaking loss to Belgium, Team USA is eliminated from the World Cup. The boy’s in blue have nothing to be ashamed of. By surviving the group of death, scoring one of the quickest goals in World Cup history, and an unprecedented amount of young players making a name for themselves Team USA was amazing to watch. From nail-biting attacks to gut wrenching finishes these players have earned their worth as top 5.

5. Michael Bradley

Holding it down in the midfield with a dome to rival that of Professor Xavier, Michael Bradley may have started off slow at the beginning of the World Cup but after every game he stepped up to the challenge. Bradley was the foundation of the US.

If Michael Bradley is the foundation, DaMarcus Beasley is the weather-proof coating that saves Team USA from pestering attackers. With his quick speed and ability to shut down attacks from opposing teams as well as get back on the attack, Beasley had an amazing World Cup.

3. Jermaine Jones

The German-American stunned everyone in his goal against Portugal. Then he went and defended against Germany while opening opportunities for counter-attacks for the US. Jones had no buzz around him going into the World Cup and now his number and name can be defined as “the heart and soul” of Team USA.

2. Clint Dempsey

“Broken nose but not broken spirits”. The poster child of Team USA, Clint Dempsey was on point the entire World Cup. With a goal scored at 29 seconds and a broken nose all in the same game Teams USA’s captain stepped up after fellow attacker Jozy Altidore was injured and boy did he step high.

1. Tim Howard

The man, the myth, the wall. Tim Howard literally turned into a wall during the US’s last game against Belgium. Boasting 16 saves, the most in 50 years during the World Cup, Howard became every American’s saving grace. Not only that but Howard’s 1997 year book quote only proves he is also a prophet.
