CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the case of a missing teacher is being investigated as a homicide.

Thirty-one-year-old Bianca Tanner was reported missing by her boyfriend Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief Rodney Monroe said Thursday that some of the witnesses are not telling the truth.

Officers searched Thursday in homes, a car and a creek in Charlotte to try to find Tanner. Investigators have expanded the search to Virginia and are getting help from police in Greensboro, where Tanner lived before moving to Charlotte last month. She had been hired to work on a special project to improve educational opportunities for eight schools.

Monroe says police have concluded Tanner’s disappearance is not a simple missing person’s case.

Tanner’s boyfriend said he last saw her when she left his apartment.
