Dane Brugler: Gettleman Can Find Starters In Rounds 2-4
CBS NFL Draft expert, Dane Brugler, joined Mac and Jim to talk about the upcoming Panthers draft, offensive tackle prospects, Dave Gettleman’s philosophy, draft a D-lineman in the first round and the wide receiver prospects.
On Virginia Offensive Tackle, Morgan Moses: Picking him in the top 32 picks is a bit rich for me. There’s a lot of things he does that you have to like, but taking him that high, with a need at left tackle, worries me a little bit.
On the offensive tackles: The tackle class is not great. There’s some talent obviously at the top, but then you look at the rest of the class, there are some guys you could envision starting, like Jack Mewhort, out of Ohio State, he’s a guy you get in the 2nd round and plug in at right tackle. If they’re wanting a tackle, they’re probably going to have to do it early.
On Dave Gettleman: He wants to make the roster stronger and this draft is very talented. You’re going to be able to find starters in the 2nd-4th round. I don’t think there’s any urgency to lock in on one position. Tackle is obviously very important and so is Wide receiver, but I don’t think they’re locked into those spots. They have to take the best talent.
On drafting a defensive lineman: With Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson it doesn’t look like a need area, but at the same time, Hardy’s franchised and Johnson’s contract, you never know and it can’t hurt to add to such a strength. Guys like Dee Ford and Kony Ealy, who the Panthers have done a lot of due diligence on, those type of guys if they view them as top 25 guys and they’re available I wouldn’t be shocked at all [if the Panthers selected one].
