New Wake Forest head basketball coach, Danny Manning, stopped by to talk about his new job with Mac and Jim.

On returning to North Carolina: It feels good to be back. I grow up in the area and I know how special basketball is to the people of North Carolina.

On what Wake Forest fans can expect: We want to be a physically and mentally tough team, first and foremost. We want to be an up tempo team. With the way college basketball is now, it’s hard to score against teams when their half court defense is set. We’re going to hang our hat on defense.

On learning from Larry Brown: I copied a lot. He coached me in college and in the pros and we’ve stayed in touch throughout the years. The one thing that he’s taught me is he was relentless in his pursuit of excellence.

On coaching the ACC: It’s super competitive, but that’s how you want it. We have to have the mindset that every day, we’re going to grind, we’re going to work. You have to embrace it. It’s the best basketball conference in the country and we have to go out and be ready to compete night in and night out.
