Charlotte 49ers Head Football Coach Brad Lambert Previews Their Spring Football Game.
Charlotte 49ers Head Football Coach Brad Lambert Previews Their Spring Football Game and the plethora of high school talent in the Charlotte area.
Coach is excited about Spring practice and how the guys have impacted the team. The players are improving and the team is looking to improve on the defensive end.
“Defensively, stopping the run and dominating the line of scrimmage on defense.”
The Charlotte 49ers will benefit from having a second year of hitting the weight room and getting stronger for the game itself. Guys have started to step up in workouts and practice.
Now the next season is here and expectations remain high, it continues to be a growing process. “…we have to improve.” The play of the team is expected to improve from the staff down to the players.
Saturday with the Spring game people will be watching to see how the guys react and who makes plays for this team. At this point its about finding your playmakers
“We want to put our guys in positions to make plays.”
Many of the players are improving and we really are excited about the second year of football for the Charlotte 49ers. A bunch of people will be watching Matt Johnson this year to see how his progression at the quarter back spot has taken place.
“He has a much better command of our offense going into his second year.”
Matt continues to get pushed not just by the staff but by the backups as well. “Lee has had a really good Spring.”
You have to have competition for different spots because it increases the play and production. You don’t want the team to feel like they are assured the starting spot.
“…bringing in a better player each year.” You want to continue to recruit guys that improve your team and program.
Being a head coach of a new program the staff has to make an adjustment just like the players. The game itself continues to become more of a normality. You want to make good decisions as a staff.
“The first game against Campbell was a tough one for me, you didn’t know what to expect.”
You have to look back and see what worked and what didn’t work. “…for me its the in game decisions…..hopefully we’re better at that this year then we were last year.”
The staff had a lot of responsibilities last year because the guys were new. This year the guys are a little older and they know what to expect and the staff will not have to manage every little detail.
“…we are going to have those old guys around…” This will allow this team to have it’s own tradition.
The fan base for the Charlotte 49ers have been great and love to see them be so excited. “…they have exceeded expectations all the time.”
