Ryan Fagan, from the Sporting News, joins Mac and Jim to discuss the NCAA Tournament brackets, which NC schools got the worst draw and the popular picks for the Final Four.

Biggest gripe with seeding: Everyone’s complaining about Louisville and I was surprised they were a four, but I had them as a three. It’s not all about how you’re playing right now. They played a horrible non-conference schedule. If the selection committee has one consistent thing it’s done is punish teams for playing bad non-conference schedules. My bigger issues were with New Mexico as a seven, instead of where I had them as a five. BYU as a ten doesn’t make any sense to me. I thought BYU would get in but as an eleven or twelve. They lost four games this year to teams that are ranked 134 or worse.

On NC State: They absolutely can win a couple games. They have a better draw than Carolina does as a six seed.

On UNC’s draw: First of all, Iowa State is so good. They have so many guys that can beat you, that can go out and score 15-20 points. Carolina has the potential, I love what Marcus Paige has turned into. He was a Sporting News second team All-American, but this is a tough matchup. I thought despite their couple of losses lately, UNC was positioned for a nice, long run, but Iowa State is a terrible matchup.

On Duke: Duke’s biggest issue in the first three games might be Tennessee. They have some big guys (Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon) and everyone knows Duke’s biggest issue is in the interior. They can be pushed around and people can score on them down there. Tennessee can take advantage of that. If Duke winds up facing Michigan, the Wolverines don’t really have an interior guy. they have some workmen, but not guys they’re going to feed consistently. Of all the two seeds Duke could have been matched up against, Michigan is the perfect one.
