Sean McDonough: Best in the ACC(?) and Marcus Paige
ESPN’s Sean McDonough joined Mac and Jim to talk some hoops, make-up calls, out of control coaches and Jim still being alive.
On the best team in the ACC: It’s hard to say. Virginia is certainly in the conversation. The more I watch them, the more impressed I am, both with the players and the coaching. The schedule isn’t quite fair, but it is what it is, and everyone knew that going in. They’re in the conversation and we’ll know a lot more after Satuday. If they beat Syracuse and go through the whole conference season with one loss, you have to tip your cap to them.
On the difference in UNC from their 1-4 start in the ACC to now: They looked like a pretty mediocre team that wasn’t going anywhere fast. I give Roy a lot of credit. The first thing they had to do was get all the Hairston stuff behind them. They flushed all that and got it behind them and then focused on how do we need to play where we can maximize what we have left. What we’re seeing is they have plenty left and when you have Paige and McAdoo as stalwarts you can certainly build around that. The challenge is to find who beyong those two who can pick up the scoring when the situation warrants.
On Marcus Paige: The more you watch him, he was fantastic last night, you just have to love what he can do. And the way he plays, not only is he a good player, but the way he presenents himself and his demeanor on the court, he’s thoroughly likeable.
