Walker Wins Award for First Time in Career After Leading Bobcats to a Perfect 4-0 Week

February 24, 2014 – The NBA announced today that Charlotte Bobcats guard Kemba Walker has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, February 17 through Sunday, February 23. Walker, the fourth player in franchise history to capture the award, led the Bobcats to the NBA’s only 4-0 record last week.

A 6-1 point guard, Walker scored in double figures in all four games, including three games of 20 points or more. Walker scored a game-high 31 points in Saturday’s 92-89 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies and handed out a career-high 16 assists in Wednesday’s 116-98 victory against Detroit. He averaged 22.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 40.5 minutes during the four-game span, ranking third in the Eastern Conference in assists and minutes played and tied for ninth in scoring. Walker has recorded at least five rebounds and five assists in each of his last three games, the longest current streak in the NBA.

The only team in the NBA to go 4-0 last week, the Bobcats beat the Pistons (twice), Pelicans and Grizzlies to win all four games of a four-game-in-five-days stretch for just the second time in franchise history. The Bobcats join the Miami Heat (five games) as the only teams in the league with current winning streaks of four or more games and are 7-3 over their last 10 games. The current four-game winning streak is the team’s first since March 25-30, 2011. Currently, the Bobcats hold the No. 7 position in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Walker joins Gerald Wallace (four times), Jason Richardson (two times) and Stephen Jackson as the only players in franchise history to win Player of the Week honors. He is the first Bobcats player to win the award since Stephen Jackson in January 2010.

Bobcats Sports & Entertainment owns the Charlotte Bobcats and operates Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena.
