Pizza Hut Manager Accused Of Spitting On Deputy’s Food
CHARLOTTE (CBS Charlotte) - A Tennessee Pizza Hut manager retaliated against a former drunk driving charge by spitting on food ordered by the same deputy who had arrested her, reports The Smoking Gun website.
Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Frank Rogers was picking up a dinner for his family while he was off duty, according to the police report.
Rogers said he paid for the order and waited on a bench in front of the counter.
“As the defendant removed the pizza from the oven I observed her cut her eyes and look at me. The defendant then leaned over the pizza that she had began to slice and I observed her spit on the pizza which had been purchased by me,” says the report.
The deputy confronted the manager, 29-year-old Amanda Engle, asking if she knew him.
“Yes, you’re Frank Rogers,” she said. Rogers had cited Engle last April in a DUI case.
Engle was not behind the wheel, but had allowed an intoxicated person to drive her car, says the sheriff. Under Tennessee law she was also charged with drunk driving.
Engle had pleaded guilty to DUI in a hearing two weeks ago, where she paid a $350 fine and was sentenced to 2 days in jail and a year of probation.
Sheriff Mike Hensleysaid that Engle’s conviction was “fresh on her mind” when she spit on Rogers’s pizza, an action he described as “just a retaliation.”
Engle was arrested for disorderly conduct and will face a judge next month. She was fired from her Pizza Hut job.
