Clark Kellogg: Clearly The Heels Can Still Turn Things Around
CBS analyst, Clark Kellogg, talks with Mac and Jim for the first time this year to talk about the landscape of college hoops.
On the Tar Heels trying to turn things around: Clearly the ship can be righted. Every team encounters so kind of turbulence. For some it’s worse than others, and there are a lot of different factors at play. They haven’t scored the ball well and they just haven’t been very good recently. That can change. It doesn’t take long to get the switch flipped. It’s a matter of execution. When they’ve played well, they’ve had their pace of play and been aggressive at both ends. They have to find a way to get back to that.
On Duke as a title contender: I never thought they were in the upper echelon of the teams I considered to be in that group at the start of the season. The clearly have played better and often times great coaches find ways to get their team in the best position to win. Coach K is one of the best, if not the best in the business and they’re on an uptick. They’re perhaps Sweet 16 caliber-ish, at this point. If you get there, you can get to the Final Four. I had them with a dozen or so teams after teams like Michigan State… Louisville… Syracuse… Arizona… and Kansas…
On the best team in the country: It’s hard not to be super impressed with Arizona. That group has talent and is extremely active on the defensive end.
Clark also discusses Kentucky being on the rise, the unexpected gift of Stephen Curry, and the impacts of the recent rule changes.
