Seth Davis: UNC’s Not Inconsistent, They’re Just Not Good
Seth Davis, from CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, and writer of a new book, Wooden: A Coach’s Life, joined Mac and Jim to talk college hoops and about the legendary coach, John Wooden.
On Duke’s struggles: Defensively is certainly where you begin. This is not what we’ve become accustomed to think of with Mike Krzyzewski coaching this program. They have a hard time stopping the dribble, but the other problem is they don’t have that rim protector. Marshall Plumlee obviously doesn’t have the confidence of the coaches to be on the court. They certainly have great pieces and they’re capable of playing better than they have, but they need to play better if they’re going to be a factor in the tournament.
On UNC’s Up and Down Nature: Consistency is part of being good. If you’re not consistent, you’re not good. UNC’s just not good right now. They’ve played some pretty big games, beating Kentucky early in the season was a nice win, but I’m not sure they’d win that game today with the way Kentucky has been playing. The win over Louisville doesn’t look as good as it did at the time. I’m not buying they’re inconsistent, their problem is they’re not very good.
Seth discusses Syracuse as the best team in the ACC, the conference being a disappointment, John Wooden’s unhappiness while he was winning titles, the underbelly of the UCLA dynasty, and the inconsistent implementation of the rule changes in college hoops.
