On Wednesday Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross joined Marc James on The Drive to talk about the Panthers match-up this weekend with the San Francisco 49ers. Gross discussed a number of topic with Marc and our callers, including what he did during is bye week, how this team compares to the Panthers 2003 Super Bowl team, and much, much more:

Gross used the bye week to “get some juice” back in his legs but he also used his time off to spend time with his family and friends: “Neighbors were coming over, I did a little campfire with some Smores with the kids in the backyard, it felt weird (being off).”

Gross, a member of the Panthers 2003 team that made a Super Bowl run, compared this year’s team to that team and gave his verdict on which team had a better defense: “We’ve won a lot of games like we did in 2003, the defense has kept us in the game and we have scored when we needed to…and I’m inclined to say that this year’s defense is better.”

The 11-year veteran discussed the possibility of hosting the NFC Championship game in Charlotte if the Saints can knock off the Seahawks: “If the Saints win and we take care of business, that would be outstanding, but if Seattle happens to win and we win, and we have to go out to Seattle, we’d really be battle-tested for the Super Bowl.”
