Young Sisters Killed In New Year’s Wreck In Seneca
SENECA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 4-year-old girl and her 1-year-old sister have died after their mother lost control of her car and crashed into a sign early New Year’s morning.
Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said the vehicle overturned after crashing into the sign at Utica Baptist Church on Seneca around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. The driver was traveling east, and the church is on a two-lane road just after a curve.
Addis says 1-year-old Taniyia Gambrell was in a safety seat and 4-year-old Saryia Patton-Dean was in a seat belt. Both were pulled out of the vehicle by paramedics after the crash.
The coroner plans autopsies, but says it appears both girls died from head injuries. The children’s mother survived.
Troopers are investigating the crash.
