SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Two people have died after the SUV they were in ran off the road and into a house in Simpsonville on Christmas Eve.

Authorities said there were people in the home when it was struck around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, but they were in another room and were not hurt.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the dead as 42-year-old Richard Bellew and 21-year-old Shannon Hitt.

Troopers say the SUV ran into a mailbox on a residential street, then swerved across the road, hitting several trees before slamming into the home.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
