(CBS Charlotte) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Medics were dispatched to a parking lot near the Transit Center on East Trade Street last night, where one person had been shot.

The call for help came in shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday night. The victim died shortly after being shot. He has been identified as Richard Marquis Bonds.

The shooting was reported less than 24 hours after a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot in West Charlotte.

The two crimes are not believed to be connected.

Witnesses and surveillance cameras were key aspects in arresting a suspect in this case. Shortly after the shooting, a car accident was reported not far from the scene, which matched the description of the suspect.

The suspect, David Michael Simpson, was taken into custody shortly after the car accident. He is 16 years old.
