HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — A Marine died in a skydiving accident while on an Australian vacation his wife won on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Brandon McGraw, a 33-year-old Marine based out of Camp Lejeune, died last Saturday during the jump in Euroa, Australia.

“McGraw watched his wife do a tandem jump before exiting the plane,” Ian Matthews, employee at Euroa Skydive, said, according to The Jacksonville Daily News. “He floated for three or four minutes with a good canopy. A short time before landing, he suddenly began turning his parachute dramatically to the left and right and eventually crashed into the ground.”

McGraw went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene.

His wife, Cherilyn McGraw, won the Australian vacation while taking part in the “Stuff Your Down Under Pants” contest on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in January

Brandon McGraw served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded several medals for his valor, WNCT-TV reports.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
