Camp Lejeune Marine Dies In Skydiving Accident
GREENVILLE, NC (CBS Charlotte) – A Camp Lejeune Marine is dead after attempting to skydive in Australia while on leave and liberty.
Gunnery Sgt. Brandon E. McGraw died Dec. 13 in Melbourne, Australia in a skydiving accident that is under investigation, WNCT reported. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
“It is with a heavy heart that MARSOC announces the passing of one of our Marines,” Marine Capt. Barry Morris of MARSOC said Tuesday according to JDNews.com. “He was a consummate professional, who upheld our warrior ethos each and every day. Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn the loss of their loved one.”
The 32-year-old, a native of Brookville, Ohio, was assigned to Company G, 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune.
His wife , Cherilyn McGraw, won the trip on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She posted a few photos on her Facebook page as a tribute to her husband and called him her hero, said he was happy and that she loved him, the tv station reported.
The marine had deployed to both Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His personal decorations include (3) Navy Achievement Medal, (2) Combat Action Ribbon, (3) Good Conduct Medal, (2) National Defense Medal, (1) Afghanistan Campaign Medal, (2) Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, (7) Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the NATO International Security Assistance Forces Medal, according to WNCT.
