HERMITAGE, Tenn. (CBS Charlotte) - A couple was given several thousand dollars in cash by accident at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

Stacye and Greg Terry went to get breakfast recently as part of their normal routine. When they opened the bag after driving off, however, they found a surprise.

“My husband opened the bag and discovered the money inside,” Stacye Terry told WTVF-TV. “He said, ‘You are not going to believe this.’ Sure enough, it was their bank deposit money.”

“This will never, ever happen again in our lifetime,” Greg Terry added to the station with a laugh.

An employee quickly realized the error that had been made and met up with the couple, who happily returned all of the money. Phil Gray, the McDonald’s owner and operator, expressed his gratitude for the couple’s honesty.

“We are looking in to why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part a community with the values that were evidenced by this person’s actions,” he said in a statement.

As for the Terrys, they said that they will definitely solicit the fast food location in the future.

Greg Terry noted, “But, next time I’m sure we’ll leave with our normal breakfast order.”
