Steve Sarkisian Takes The USC Job.
University of Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian was offered and has accepted the same position at the University of Southern California according to multiple reports. Even after interviewing former player and current Denver Broncos interim head coach Jack Del Rio, who many believed was the front runner to get the job, along with James Franklin, John Gruden (I know, I know) and of course Ed Orgeron . Orgeron had been the interim head coach since Lane Kiffin was fired after 5 games this year and was beloved by players. I’ll be honest with you, this is an under-whelming hire for USC in my opinion. It does “keep it in the family” however, as Sarkisian returns to the place he was a assistant at for 7 seasons. Sarkisian went 34-29 overall at Washington over the past 5 seasons. With Del Rio not taking the job, he was offered the same position in 2010, it remains to be seen if he will stay in Denver or not. He has been linked to several coaching jobs in the NFL and college levels.
Some players and many fans have expressed anger that Orgeron was not hired.
“Coach O can never be replaced ! That’s all I’m gonna say” Saftey Su’a Cravens tweeted earlier.
Some fans have taken to message boards to vent their frustrations.
“Embarrassing.” was all one poster had to say about it.
Others thought USC was going to bring in the big name they have craved since Pete Carroll and his decade of domination left. It also left the program on probation but that’s neither here nor there. Lane Kiffin was thought to be that guy when he was hired in 2010 but was fired at the airport when the team arrived home after a loss to Arizona State on Sept 29th.
Time will tell whether or not this is a good hire for USC but right now I don’t think it is. They may have been turned down by all of the other candidates, I don’t know. This just screams desperation at me. Prove me wrong Stevie boy.
