CBS’s NFL Insider, Jason La Canfora, joins Mac and Jim to discuss the Panthers season.

On the Panthers being a legitimate contender: Yes! What’s not for real? They’re beating people up.  They’re winning football games. They’ve been the beater team. They’ve been statistically the better team. There’s notthing flukey about this.

On the Panthers future: Dave Gettleman knows exactly what he inherited there and that’s a pretty good young cast. Marty Hurney, you can knock him for certain things if you want, but the Charles Johnson contract looks pretty good right now, how about all those running backs under contract looks pretty good, right  now and he crushed the first round picks (Kuechly and Cam). Gettleman knew the cupboard wasn’t bare. They did a great job of finding value free agents to fill some holes, but they need more skill players and they know that. I think Gettleman will address a lot of that in the off-season. I don’t think they’ll go crazy in free agency, but if they keep hitting in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round of draft, they’re going to be in position to get better and better.

On Cam: He still has room for growth, as great as he is, and I think he’ll be one of the contenders for the MVP. He’s going to force people to put him there as much as they’ll begrudgingly won’t want to or come up with more stuff to try to knock him, his play will mandate it.

Jason also talks about the divisional race in the NFC South, the Ahmad Brooks penalty and quarterback safety.
