Charles Davis: I still Question If The Panthers Can Run The Ball Consistently
Charles Davis, from the NFL Network and Fox, stops by to discuss the Panthers, NFL, college football, and even a dash North Carolina Central hoops.
On the Panthers inclusion with the other top NFC teams: You have to talk about them for that, but you’re still holding out a little bit of skepticism because they’re the Johnny Come Lately and how they started the season.
On catching up with Brandon LaFell: This summer, I saw him at Peyton Manning’s camp. LaFell was running routes for the quarterbacks. I point blank asked him, ‘Do you guys like playing for Ron Rivera?’ LaFell said, “Man, we love Coach Rivera.”
On the Panthers achilles heel: I still look at this team and ask ‘Can they run the ball consistently?’ Do they really have that? Because playoff football is a lot like playoff basketball in the NBA. You can be a full court team all season, but then in the playoffs things slow down. I’m not saying that takes them totally out, it’s just a lot harder task.
On Miami being a dangerous opponent: Very much so, they just came off a win. That was a soothing win for that team. People wondered if they would have a great effort against Tampa and they didn’t. They looked dispirited and beaten down by the outside negative influences. Last week they bounced back , so I would be very weary of them.
On college football: Take Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State and Baylor, any one of the four can be that team. I worry about Baylor, they’ve had a lot of injuries and emotional games lately, and they’re going to Oklahoma State. Ohio State trots their way through to the Big 10 Championship. Florida State trots their way through. Alabama beats Auburn at Auburn and the SEC Championship game. People keep talking about Alabama being vulnerable, but Baylor’s the most vulnerable.
Charles also talks about Cam’s development, liking Ron Rivera, the climate in the Miami Dolphins locker room, and the no call that ended Monday Night Football.
