Former NFL quarterback and current analyst for Westwood One, Trent Green, joins Mac and Jim. Naturally, the interview starts with a discussion of Phil Collins before moving into the Panthers-Patriots matchup.

On the Panthers being ‘for real’: I definitely think they can win tonight and the reason why is their defense is playing at such a high level. When you talk about total defense, the pressure, keeping teams ut of the end zone, you use that blue print and convey it to the offense, so they don’t feel like they have to do everything on the offensive side. That’s where the maturation of Cam Newton has come along, understanding what he has and not feeling like he has to do it all alone.

On Cam Newton: I like the way he’s grown. I was a little concerned early in the season. Some of the mistakes he was still making, some of the things he was still trying to do. Now, he’s showing a good understanding. When you go from year one with the dynamic numbers and spectacular plays and as a young guy you can get caught up in that in a litle bit and I think some of that happened his second year. Even though he put up decent numbers, I’m not so sure his focus was as sharp as it should have been. This year he’s gotten re-zoned in and understanding what he has in his team, what it takes to play QB in the NFL and maybe spending a little more time in the film room and game preparation. At least, that’s what it appears.

Trent also discusses the change of offensive coordinators, the NFC contenders, and makes his prediction for tonight’s game.
