Charley Casserly: Gronkowkski And Amendola Will Be Tough Covers For The Panthers
Former general manager and current NFL Network analyst, Charley Casserly, joined the Mac Attack to talk about the Panthers upcoming Monday Night test v. the New England Patriots.
On the match up: Carolina has a great chance to win. When the Patriots have the ball, can Carolina’s pass rush take over the game? Can they shut down the run and make the Pats one dimensional? Brady is smart and quick with the football, but a pass rush negates him. If he has anytime to throw, with Gronkowski and Amendola, those are tough matchups for the Panthers secondary. Pass rush is the key.
On the Panthers offense vs. the New England defense: The key will be when they get to the red zone. New England excels in the red zone. I think what the Patriots will try to do is vary coverages to make Cam hold the ball and hope Chandler Jones can get there. They don’t blitz a lot, but in the red zone they do a good job of doubling the right people and confusing you and holding you to FGs. The red zone offense will be key for Carolina.
On New England’s no huddle offense: I can see them doing it quite a bit. They’re going to do it and make you stop it. If you don’t stop it, they’ll keep doing it.
On Luke Kuechly: He’s terrific. He’s definitely in the conversation as one of the top defensive players in the league.
Casserly also answers questions on game managers and the idea that Cam Newton has become one, the Chiefs-Broncos and Saints-49ers matchups this week.
