AJ Klein: We Probably Have The Best Front Four In The NFL
Panthers rookie linebacker AJ Klein joins the Mac Attack after an impressive performance in the team’s win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Klein talks about replacing Chase Blackburn for his first significant action of the season, the national perception of the Panthers, learnig from his fellow linebackers (“the sky’s the limit with our group”), planning for Monday Night Football andJim gives the rook a hard time (no hazing).
On the defense: It starts with our front four. We have probably the best front four in the NFL. Physical, fast, big and strong, these guys eat up blocks for Luke (Kuechly), Thomas (Davis), and me.
On the gameplan: Coach emphasized forcing them (49ers) into third and long situations and making Colin Kapernick to make plays throwing the ball. We did a great job of that on Sunday. Our back seven is a testament to our third down defense. I don’t know the percentage, but they didn’t convert that many times on 3rd down and that’s a result of getting after them on first and second down.
On not getting down after the team’s slow start: Most of us were disappointed with how we lost those close games. We felt we should’ve won those games. Now, we’re taking it upon ourselves and putting an end to it [losing]. A lot of the veterans didn’t want a replay of previous years. This was the year to make a statement.
On Luke Kuechly: He makes plays I haven’t seen people make before. He’s fast, he can move well, very smart, and a great guy off the field. He’s got it all.
