Greg Bedard, From Sports Illustrated’s Monday Morning Quarterback (MMQB), joined the Mac Attack to discuss some NFL storylines.

On the 6th NFC Playoff Spot: The Panthers have to be considered one of the favorites, but these next two weeks are going to tell us a lot. You could make the argument they’re a bit of a paper tiger, because of who they’ve beaten so far. These next couple weeks will be a referendum on how good the Panthers are, but I think they’re as good as any of the teams fighting for the wildcard berths. I wouldn’t give up on the NFC South, though, I don’t think the Saints are as good as people make them out to be.

On the Panthers: The biggest issue for this team going forward will be their issues in the secondary. When you look at the quarterbacks coming up on their schedule: Brady, Kaepernick, and Brees, if the guys up front don’t get pressure, the secondary could really get exposed.

On the Saints: Defensively, Rob Ryan, has been doing a lot of what he’s been doing with a little smoke and mirrors. they’ve had a lot of injury problems, and you canovercome that for a short stretch, but over an entire season, it’s very hard to hide those flaws. This is Ryan’s first year with the team and a lot fo the stuff was new, but now everthing’s on tape. Teams are also trying to pressure Drew Brees right up the middle and get into his feet and made him uncomfortable. The Jets did an excellent job with this. The Saints are a good team, but they’re certainly not capable of running away with a division at thispoint in the season.
