Wes Durham the voice of the Atlanta Falcons talks with The Drive to preview the Panthers/Falcons game this Sunday,  they get into where the ACC is as a  conference, and the troubles the Falcons have had this year.  Plus we talk about Cam Newton’s maturation this season and if the Panthers have a shot at catching the Saints.

We start by asking about Tony Gonzalez and if there was a chance that the Falcons would have traded him back to the 8-0 Kansas City Chiefs.

“Tony made a promise to come back this year come rain or shine”

“You can’t write the script, and Tony knows that.”

“I don’t think there was any serious consideration from the Falcons”

Injuries have decimated the Falcons but to Wes the most important loss has got to be “Kroy Biermann because of the hybrid position he was at linebacker”

To prove injuries have hurt this team Wes has this little gem, “If Roddy White doesn’t play, beyond Tony Gonzalez, and Harry Douglas Matt Ryan will be throwing balls to guys he threw 1 series of balls to in the preseason.  One.”

Looking long term for the Panthers we ask Wes if the Panthers are in the hunt for a playoff spot is there just to much work to do.

“I think if the Panthers just stay in the shadows of New Orleans…I think if the Panthers stay within a game or two of New Orleans they’ll clearly be a Wild Card team”

Wes Durham has the Wake Forest/Syracuse call this weekend on 1660 am
