Man Accused Of Abducting 2 SC Women In Custody
LANE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the abduction of a woman and her 17-year-old daughter near St. Stephen.
Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael Johnson says 36-year-old Telly Darnell McClam was arrested in the community of Lane late Monday night.
Earlier in the day, LeAndre Shalaunti Deare and her mother, 36-year-old Deandrene McHoney, were abducted near St. Stephen in Berkeley County. They were recovered Monday afternoon when the car they were in crashed.
Authorities say their abductor escaped on foot.
Johnson says McClam will face charges in both Berkeley and Williamsburg counties.
In 1999, McClam was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. State authorities say he was released from prison in March 2012.
